This is EP contains the alternate version of the instrumental of Mish Mash... with the bonus of of also containing the original instrumental version
The alternative version contains voices of friends talking about their favourite movie or song. After many changes to the title, it finally came from the words provided by the 3 people that appear on this track
This is very much a COVID-19 lockdown project. However, I did not want to create something that was about the current situation, rather something that is a means of escape.
As with the original instrumental version, this was very much a learning process with voices being provided by friends who recorded on a variety of devices i.e. mobile phones.
The Brutha Voodoo is one of my oldest friends with whom I have lived with, drank with and sat in A&E... with until 7 in the morning... when I dislocated my knee cap playing a gig almost 20 years ago... I asked him to speak on this track because i knew he would pick a movie or song that would be wild and obscure. He is also a poet and radio presenter. I knew he would sound amazing on this track.
Carolle is married to The Brutha Voodoo and reside in Scotland. I have only met her a few times, but I had this feeling that she would pick something at the opposite end of the scale to Survive Style... She didn't disappoint. What I didn't realise was, she would talk about a beautiful movie in such a beautiful and passionate way. I loved hearing her her talk about Watership Down. She inspired me to go back and re-watch it. I hope you feel the same.
Kat is a dear friend of mine, and work colleague. Kat is an epilepsy nurse and works with people with learning disabilities. She wears her heart on her sleeve and is very passionate about her job. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met. Again, as with Carolle's description of Watership Down, Kat talked about Million Voices by Otto Knows. I genuinely almost cried when i heard it. I'd never heard her talk about herself like this before. It was/is beautiful.
These 3 people took my piece of music, which at times, is ugly and dark... But they made it into something different. Something I never thought it would be.... A Mish Mash of Fairytales.
