about

I initially intended for this track to be quite snappy and short, but because of the nature and topic of the track i ended up adding a lot of emotive dynamics into it. I ended up breaking it down into segments which i am referring to as acts.
The topic of this piece is my son, who was born in 2018. He was conceived through IVF.
While i feel this is a thundering piece of music, i wanted it to feel positive and for it to express our utmost joy that we have this amazing little human who blows our minds on a daily basis.
I have titled it The Dove because my son's name is the Hebrew word for dove, but also expresses how, i feel, he battled his way into existence and into the world for take off. As is common in pregnancies and deliveries, there are complications. We had a couple that worried us, so darker feels in this piece express that.
The Dove (Act 1 - The Regime), takes us through the lifestyle changes that my wife and had make in order to be accepted for the IVF process. Also, the processes my wife had to go through in order to carry it out.
The Dove (Act 2 - The Confirmation), Leads us into our joy when it was confirmed that conception was successful and going through the stages of choosing a name. Will it be a girl or a boy? What are our top names for either? And all the other planning processes you go through when you're told you are pregnant.
The Dove (Act 3 - The Uncertainty), Blends in with The Confirmation as the excitement and fear of going into labour emerges, followed by the delivery. We experienced complications with delivery and post-natal for a few weeks, so this act aims to express how uncertain we felt during the delivery and after in regards to health. This builds into a crescendo.
The Dove (Act 4 - Taking Flight), Follows the crescendo into, hopefully, a triumphant end/outro where, well... you know... He made it!
The Dove (Act 5 - the Song Begins), Yes, that's my jungle book voice at the end. that is something i began singing to my son when he was very young (and still do ocassionally) because he just found it funny and it was an amazing feeling to get that repsonse from him. You'll notice that the early main riff (as i refer to it) is based on this little tune that i sang.

The steps in our pregnancy experience are not unique. Everyone possibly experiences this in some way, but i wanted to write a piece that shows how we felt/feel as parents...still do to this day. I also hope others can listen and relate to it in some way... Or even apply it to different life experiences and find a positive.
